Charcoal Water Filter

Is this the type of charcoal that is used in water filters as well as the charcoal that is used in grilling?

I am designing a filter for that kind of thing our pond and we have a coal pile in our garage Bricket that we do not. I would capable of crushing / grinding Bricket and put in a "container" that could be used to filter the water? (Do not drink the water, pond water) more: we have fish and water lilies in our pond too, plz tell me if this is not a good idea, with the charcoal. Hope this helps.

Briquettes are mostly made from bituminous coal in the U.S. ... I would not even want to eat food cooked on them. coal Wood is generally called "Lump charcoal" .. good for cooking, but not what you want. charcoal filtering is called "coal active "
